“It’s not the scroll killing your focus —it’s the silent hunger to matter.”
Everyone nowadays is talking about our phones, eating, or any other addiction (which are many!), instead of talking about the real case and foundation within us. You’re not addicted to your phone. You’re addicted to being seen. Noticed. Validated.Even just for a moment.
It’s not the scroll killing your focus —it’s the silent hunger to matter.
- When did I last keep refreshing, not for news, but to feel seen?
- Where have I built things to prove I matter?
- What moment recently made me realize I needed external validation?
Last week I published something I was proud of. But I didn’t feel anything until the likes came in. And even then, it wasn’t joy. It was relief… like I’d escaped invisibility for a second.
That’s when I realized: I wasn’t addicted to scrolling. I was addicted to being noticed.
I had the same feeling when I was an elite athlete, the best in the world, and wasn´t happy if I didn´t win because my low self-esteem was grounded in my identity connection to attention from my performances and not the personal pursuit of the process.
Addiction is a hijacked dopamine system, biologically made for being bored or having a hard time, rather than for pleasure. Oh boy i wish i knew the stuff i know know back then, that´s why it´s so important to teach you about how to control your dopamine levels and get it from yor biological source which is within you.
Dopamine as a Peak Performance Factor
Dopamine is released not only when you receive rewards, but even more powerfully when you anticipate social validation.
Whenever you check your notifications, you feed a social reward loop driven by the brain’s ancient wiring for belonging and survival.
You weren’t designed to resist constant approval signals. You were designed to chase them — or be cast out.
I see this constantly with my eyes in business and sports, and recently, with some of the best violin musicians I work with. I have clients who are extremely sensitive to micro-feedback for this reason, or have obvious hardcore fears of social disconnections, which makes performance that becomes survival and threatens their whole identity of who they believe they are.
It’s not weakness. It’s biology.Your brain still thinks it’s living in a tribe, not on a screen.
Back then, being ignored didn’t just sting — it could mean death. So the brain evolved to treat disapproval like danger, and attention like survival.
I’ve seen this play out firsthand —In boardrooms, where leaders obsess over recognition instead of results. On the field, where athletes push past burnout just to stay “chosen.”
And most recently —In elite violinists, world-class artists who crack under pressure not from the music…but from the silence of the judges’ faces.
They’re not afraid of failing. They’re afraid of vanishing.
Dopamine isn’t just about motivation. It´s about the anticipation of feeling enough. Your brain gives you a hit when you think someone might approve of you. Even if they don’t. Even if it never comes.
That’s why it’s so addictive. It´s not about Pleasure, It´s about the hope of finally being enough.
The Danger Of Social Approval Addiction
Distraction is just the symptom. The root addiction is approval. The loop you are in feeds itself like this:
>Available connection with the world (phone)
> Dopamine increases when absorbing or participating
> dopamine drops below baseline, after which it equals suffering and pain (feeling lonely or not important)
> The brain wants more and more dopamine as a reward. The more we train this cycle, the larger the range will be in how much dopamine and suffering we desire, experience, and need for homeostasis (balance).
>We are now addicted and inhibiting Peak Performance.
>Our goals in life will be suffering from what truly matters, which makes us feel even more suffering and needs even more dopamine, and on and on and on it goes.
Because if you stopped chasing it…you might feel the discomfort of who you are without it.
And that’s the real work.
Distraction is a convenient lie. It´s lets us avoid the harder truth: That we’ve tied our self-worth to other people’s reactions.
But freedom doesn’t come from fighting distraction. It comes from untangling your identity from approval.
This is why the 3P Elevate State System doesn’t just teach how to maintain and create focus. It rewires the neurochemical loop between:
- Dopamine (desire)
- Oxytocin (connection)
- Self-concept (who you think you need to be to be loved)
We teach you how to decouple worth from performance and approval from attention.
You don’t need to numb your craving. You need to understand, regulate, and redirect it into real fulfillment.
That’s why I created the 3P Elevate State System. Not to just give people hacks to focus…But to rewire the reward loop itself. To teach high performers how to find internal permission. So they don’t need to chase applause to keep moving.
You don’t need another productivity tool. You need a new relationship with yourself. That´s real Peak Performance!
